2012-13 Chicago Bulls Preview: Must Know Players and Positions

With the official start of the Bulls 2012-2013 season tonight, it’s time for a last minute Bulls-brush-up. You may think you know your Chicago Bulls inside and out, but after saying goodbye to key members of the “Bench Mob” this off-season they’ve got a completely new supporting cast in the reserves this year. Here are the names you’ll need to know in 2012:

Cutty is Growing a ‘Stache for Movember

Just imagine this without the additional beard scruff

Cutty is joining the Mo Bros. Chicago Bears Quarterback Jay Cutler has agreed to grow a mustache during the month of November in support of MovemberThe charity raises money and awareness to fight prostate cancer and support other testicular cancer initiatives.

The deal was struck during the Cutler Show on Monday with Tom Waddle and Marc Silverman of ESPN 1000. We’ll see which pretty boy can hack a mustache for the whole month.

When asked how the mustache would make his Fiancee feel Cutler said, “I did a trial run on Friday, and it’s not pretty. (Kristin Cavallari) didn’t even notice by two hours. I’m in like fourth place, we have two dogs (and a newborn son). It got nothing for a couple of hours. I didn’t like (the look of) it. It was bad.”

I can’t wait until Cutler gets in front of the cameras for a post game conference rocking a big fat ‘stache. It might be amazing, let’s hope he sees it through.

Adam Dunn 2012 Comeback Player of the Year

It looks like one good thing came out of Adam Dunn’s abysmal 2011 season, he has been deemed the 2012 Comeback Player of the Year.  It’s not a championship ring/title for the Chicago White Sox first baseman/designated hitter, but I would say it’s something to be proud of.

“I’m sure my (family) really enjoys it more than I do,” Dunn said. “I don’t really play for (awards), I play for one thing (championships) and if I don’t get it than it is all for naught. I am very appreciative of this award but I really wish I would have never won it because you have to have the bad go with the good,” he told ESPN Chicago.

Dunn suffered an oblique strain injury at the end of the season and was not pleased with the Sox’s unsatisfying finish as well as his own inability to help the team. Not only did the Sox miss the playoffs, but they have to watch their rivaled Detroit Tigers advance all the way to the World Series (Game 1 against the San Francisco Giants starts tonight). Yuck!

His resurgence was refreshing since Dunn signed a four-year $56 million deal before the 2011 season – and then he stunk. Although he had a MUCH better year, Dunn still has some areas he’d like to improve on: driving the ball to the opposite field more frequently and cutting down his strikeouts. His 222 strikeouts in 2012 were the most in a single season in American League history.

Congratulations Dunn! Hopefully next season the White Sox can make it into the postseason for ya :-).

Patrick Kane is Going Swiss

With the uncertainty as to when the NHL lockout will end, Blackhawks star forward Patrick Kane has decided to take his talents overseas to Switzerland. Can you blame the guy for just wanting to play hockey? His agent announced Tuesday, Kaner will play for the Swiss National League A team EHC Biel until the NHL lockout is over.

Thankfully Kane held off his European departure until after the “Champs for Charity” game is played on Friday at the AllState Arena. The event is shaping up to be a memorable night to benefit the Ronald McDonald House in Chicago. Kaner is joining many of the 2010 Stanley Cup Blackhawks and other NHL players. The list includes: Adam Burish, Andrew Ladd, Troy Brouwer, Kris Versteeg, Brian Campbell and other former Hawks like James Wisniewski, Jim Vandermeer, Jake Dowell and Craig Anderson will also participate.

The comptetion consists of Bobby Ryan (Anaheim Ducks), Ryan Suter (Minnesota Wild), Ville Leino (Buffalo Sabres), Nicklas Backstrom (Washington Capitals), Kimmo Timonen (Philadelphia Flyers) and Joe Corvo (Carolina Hurricanes) just to name a few. We’ll see the final roster in the days to come.

I wish this wasn’t the only opportunity to watch our NHL players skate in 2012, but at least it’s for a good cause!

Other Hawks who will venture overseas include:

  • Bryan Bickell – HC Znojmo (Czech Republic)
  • Viktor Stalberg – Frolunda (Sweden)
  • Michael Frolik – Plzen (Czech Republic)

Bulls Squeak Out Preseason Win Against Shorthanded Thunder

The Bulls pulled off their most impressive preseason win at home on Tuesday night defeating the agressive and talented Oklahoma City Thunder 94-89. Chicago’s starters looked damn good racking up some positive stats for the evening, but despite the win it wasn’t a true test because OKC’s All-Star (and fashion forward) duo of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook sat this one out. Although they were missing their super-stars on the court, the Thunder – reigning NBA Western Conference Champs – played with regular season intensity making the Bulls work for it.

Monday Night Showdown – Bears vs. Lions

Seriously who scheduled a presidential debate on the same day as Monday Night Football. Football is the All-American sport, if either were true patriots they would have requested to change the debate day. Sorry Obama and Mittens, all of Illinois and Michigan will be tuning into the Monday Night showdown between the Chicago Bears and the Detroit Lions – NFC North at it’s finest on primetime. I vote watch the Bears live and DVR or stream the debate online. #Beardown

Derrick Rose #thereturn | SportsDivas Inc.

It may only be preseason, but when Derrick Rose participates in shooting practice before game time, we can’t help but get excited about the upcoming season and the eventual return of our beloved point guard.

If you haven’t seen the new Adidas campaign surrounding Rose’s return to the game, get ready for some goosebumps! Adidas was right on the money with their latest TV commercial “Wake Up” which accurately depicts the emotions fans and teammates experienced the moment Rose hit the floor tearing his ACL.
