Justin Bieber: Worst Dressed NBA Fan

BiebsDear Justin Bieber,

You really went with the leather shirt and tacky gold chains get-up to go with your court-side seat? No wonder Selena G got rid of you.

Always,
A Concerned TwentySomething

Aye Dios Mio…I know Game 7 between the Pacers and the Heat was in Miami, a city known for pushing the fashion limits, but a leather shirt is never acceptable game day attire for a man (or “young man” for the Biebs sake). Also, is he aware American Airlines Arena is an indoors facility? Were the shades really necessary?

I think Justin Bieber truly established himself as the douchiest dressing NBA fan across the nation. What happened to the little boy with the Ellen DeGeneres haircut who just loved basketball? Let’s take a look at his progression from a nice Canadian Toronto Raptors fan to the individual we saw on Monday:

Justin BieberI can’t wait to see what the Biebs comes up with for the Finals series. Not sure he can top the horrific leather shirt.

What a Guy: Kevin Durant Donates $1 Million to Red Cross Tornado Relief

kevin-durant-nba-playoffs-2013-game-4

I have been in love with Kevin Durant on the basketball court since his debut, I fell more in love with KD after the hilarious Sprint NBA commercial, but today America fell head over heels in love with Kevin Durant the person.

After devastating tornadoes swept through the streets of Oklahoma City stripping people of their homes a beacon of hope emerged with the generosity of one very popular OKC Thunder player. CBS Sports’ Royce Young broke the news that Kevin Durant has donated $1 million to the American Red Cross to support the Oklahoma City Tornado Relief fund.

Even for a superstar NBA player, a million dollars is a really large sum of money. Durant earned approximately $17.5 million playing for OKC this past season – endorsements not included. So that means KD just donated about 5% of his salary to support the city that cheers him on throughout his season. The Oklahoma City Thunder organization then chimed in and matched Durant’s donation in support of relief as well.

Unlike other superstars, Mr. Durant didn’t take to twitter publicizing his donation. Rather, the Red Cross was the one to announce his generous donation while KD was urging others to donate to support the fund.

I don’t think it gets much better than Kevin Durant ladies and gentlemen. Today he showed the world that he is not only an outstanding professional basketball player, but also an outstanding human being.

Bulls vs Heat Game 2 Semifinals Cheat Sheet 5.8.13

The short-handed Bulls extinguished the Heat and their raging egos on Monday night with their 93-86 Game 1 win, obliterating any ideas of a four-game “Miami Sweep” in the second round. Our favorite South Beach divas were caught off guard and we can’t imagine they were too thrilled about their unexpected loss to their conference foes who were missing three of their starters.

Chicago’s work in the series opener was nothing short of astonishing, but the Heat will be out for blood to defend their reputation as champs in front of their home crowd in Game 2. We can expect bigger and stronger plays from King James and his faithful minions after losing to our fearless Bulls squad. Can Nate Robinson and Joakim Noah lead the Bulls to another emotional win over the Heat?

Eastern Conference Semifinals Preview: Chicago Bulls vs Miami Heat | SportsDivas Inc.

The battered Bulls defied the odds yet again this weekend when they knocked out the Brooklyn Nets in Game 7 despite their seriously injured lineup. With just one day of rest after a grueling seven game opening series, our men in red are moving right along to the second round of the playoffs where they will matchup against their Eastern Conference foes – the big, bad Miami Heat.

The fifth seeded Chicago Bulls are yet again the underdogs as they are taking their talents to South Beach on Monday to begin their series with the top seeded and defending Champion Miami Heat.

Miami, who spanked the Milwaukee Bucks in four games and has been resting for a week, are the obvious series favorites as BronBron just snagged another MVP title, they had the best record in the NBA during the regular season and they’re stacked with athletic talent.

The depleted Bulls are still without their franchise stud Derrick Rose, key players such as Kirk Hinrich and Luol Deng have been plagued with injury and illness and they just played an extremely physical seven-game series with the Nets. But don’t rule the Bulls out completely, it’s the NBA playoffs and anything can happen.

Bulls fans know better than anyone that their team can rise to the occasion no matter the situation and play with heart, hustle and as much muscle as they have. Head Coach Tom Thibodeau always says, “we have enough to win.” If there’s one team who’s not afraid to play Lebron and company, it’s the Chicago Bulls.

Get ready for some intense basketball and some seriously entertaining post game fashion (yes, that’s a palm tree sweater) as the Miami Heat will deliver both throughout this second round series. Let the emotional roller-coaster that has been the Bulls 2013 post-season continue.

First Round Playoff Preview: Chicago Bulls vs Brooklyn Nets

If watching the Bulls has taken a back seat to other reality TV viewing this season, it’s time for you to jump back on the Bulls bandwagon. The NBA playoffs have finally arrived and the next month and a half of exciting playoff action is the ideal time to really tune in and pay attention.

It’s been a love-hate relationship for most of us Bulls fans this season, but the time has come to put the regular season behind us, strap on our best Bulls gear and BULLieve in our city’s team.

Despite the constant disappointing hype surrounding Derrick Rose’s return and the additional injuries to other starters, the men in red nabbed the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference and are heading to Brooklyn to get the post season started against the Nets this Saturday.

Brooklyn has home-court advantage in the first series, being the fourth seed, however the match-up is not unfavorable for the Bulls. Chicago took 3 of the 4 games against the Nets in the regular season – one coming just a few weeks ago while the Bulls were missing half their roster. This series will be a true test of the offensively powerful Nets and the defensively feisty Bulls. Can the “heart, hustle and muscle” pull off a first round win against the new-era Nets? Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau told ESPN he “likes his chances,” with the guys who have played all year. Let’s find out.

Bulls March Report Card: C+

The month of March was ticking along like just an average month of late for the Bulls, full of ups and downs and sprinkled with some tough injuries, until they snapped the big bad Miami Heat’s 27 game winning streak. And like magic, the shorthanded Chicago Bulls gained a little bit of much-needed respect around the league.

As we begin the final month of the regular season, our Bulls have already clinched a playoff spot – not too shabby. Let’s re-cap what went down this past month. Remember ladies, these are excellent talking points for water coolers, cocktail parties and wherever else the Bulls are discussed.

The Good: Despite missing some key players due to injury, the team has glimmers of fabulousness when they play as a cohesive unit. Los Bulls were able to defeat the Heat without Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, Marco Belinelli and Rip Hamilton.

Defense is the name Thibodeau’s game. The Bulls are still dominating on defense, only allowing 92.5 points a game (going strong at third best in the league).

The Bad: No sight of DRose. The Bulls star point guard has taken a cautious approach to his return to the lineup after undergoing serious ACL surgery last May. Even though Rose was cleared to play by the team’s doctors in March, he’s been very vocal about not suiting up until he feels 100%.

This is all fine and dandy, but it’s time to make an official statement – he’s either coming back or he’s not. If not for the fans, then for the mental sake of his teammates who are bombarded with “Derrick Rose return” questions on a daily basis.

The Bulls can’t seem to catch a break when it comes to injuries. Kirk Hinrich spent half of the month on the bench with his ailing injuries.  Rip Hamilton is out of the lineup with a back injury. Taj Gibson also missed more than half of the month with a knee injury. One of the toughest injuries has been Joakim Noah’s plantar fasciitis that has kept the heart of the Bulls hustle and muscle sidelined for the last few games.

Overall: Chicago is sixth in the East and won half of the games played in March. A 7-7 record constitutes a C average, but the Bulls get some extra credit for preventing the Heat from making NBA history. We give the men in red a C+.

Phil Jackson’s Perfect Profile Picture

jackson's twitter

Legendary NBA coach Phil Jackson joined twitter this past week (@PhilJackson11) and chose a sick picture as his default photo. The man has won quite a bit a BLING throughout his career – he has to double up on fingers to wear them all at once!

598184-phil-jacksonThe picture displays 11 championship rings. Jackson won six coaching Michael Jordan and the Bulls in the 1990s and five more from 1999 to 2010 as coach of the Lakers. It seems he forgot about his 12th title which he earned as a member of the 1972-73 Knicks.

In less than 24 hours Jackson picked up over 140,000 followers – not too shabby for a days work.

I wish 140,000 people cared about what I had to say on the micro-blog – a girl can dream.

STREAK SNAPPERS: Bulls Beat Heat 101-97

James

It was an un-BULL-ievable game, as our shorthanded Bulls crushed the Heat’s dreams of making NBA history with a 101-97 victory at the United Center last night. Who better to snap the Heat’s 27-game winning streak than their biggest Eastern Conference rivals? We don’t allow streaking at the Madhouse unless it’s by the home team!

To throw a little more salt into Miami’s wound, Wednesday’s win came on a night when Chicago was without star point guard Derrick Rose, All-Star center Joakim Noah and veteran shooting guard Rip Hamilton. How do you feel about that King James?

The UC was in a complete uproar as the final seconds ticked off the clock with chants of “End the Streak” and  ”Beat the Heat” echoing around the stadium. It was all heart, a lot of hustle and a little extra muscle by Chicago that left Miami challenged and frustrated. It’s time to dig into the details of this historic game that has left our city celebrating the day after.

Lebron is Getting Harder to Hate

lebron-james-savannah-brinson

For the past few years every time someone mentioned “Lebron James” my blood would boil. It might have been the distasteful nationally aired “Decision” expo that sent me over the edge. It may have been the fact that he chose the Miami Heat out of all the teams in the league to play for. It may have been that I was just salty that he didn’t want to “bring his talents” to Chicago. Whatever the case – I was a King James HATER, but recently I’ve been finding it much more difficult to hold my grudge against the guy.

The first step was the adorable Samsung Galaxy commercial he put out starring himself, but more importantly his super cute little boys. You can’t help but smile at those guys drawing an afro on their dad’s picture.

Then TMZ leaks a photo of his recent “Save the Date” for Bron Bron’s destination wedding to fiancee Savannah Brinson in San Diego, CA. Again, I have to admit, I really like them. There’s even a fun caricature of James, Savannah and their 2 kiddos.

0301-tmz-lebron-james-savannah-brinson-3_original

Lebron James is undeniably one of the best players to ever play the game of basketball. He’s averaging 27 points a game, 7.2 assists and 8.1 rebounds. This guy is the real deal when it comes to the NBA’s elitist league. I’ve never had a hard time respecting his talent, but now I think I might actually like him off the court. Do not misinterpret this post as my transition to becoming a Lebron fan, I will cheer for my Chicago Bulls through and through.

AARP Delivers MJ A Birthday Gift

MJ AARPIf you missed the media hoopla the past few days, the legendary Michael Jordan turned 50 years old this weekend. As this basketball icon was celebrating his day of birth being showered with TV specials illustrating his unbelievable career, AARP gave MJ the greatest gift of all- a big slap in the face reminding him he’s over the hill and retired. Forget the cover of Sports Illustrated highlighting the talented athlete he is – instead he gets his membership to AARP and lands the cover of AARP Magazine. MJ officially gets his senior citizen discount.

Did you know AARP Magazine is the largest circulated magazine in the United States? So TECHNICALLY it’s a bigger honor that Sports Illustrated. I bet the non-egotistical best basketball player of all time was just thrilled to receive this honor…#airgoesAARP

AARP tweet

Well Happy Belated Birthday MJ. You were absolutely my favorite player of all time. Let’s end on a positive note and honor #23 the way we should.
