Joakim Noah Has Derrick’s Back

noah postgame

After the Bulls unexpected 93-86 Game 1 win over the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Semifinals on Monday, Rose speculators started running their mouths more than usual about “the return.”

no soul

Joakim Noah stood up for his brother in red and had some words for the Rose-Haters out there. Noah told the press that what Derrick is going through is so tough and it’s amazing how quickly people jump to judge a player that they admired so deeply just a year ago.

“If you tore your ACL and you have to be the starting point guard and have the expectations that Derrick has, then maybe you can judge, but everybody who hasn’t been in that situation before should really shut up because I feel like it’s just so unfair to him and to this team. We’re fighting, and everybody’s going to just s— on somebody who’s been giving so much to this organization. It’s crazy to me,” he told ESPN Chicago.

Derrick_BenchCritics have been up and arms about Rose’s return since he was medically cleared in March and has not yet played this season. On Monday Rose told the media that he hasn’t been ruled out completely for the Bulls-Heat series, he said, “still up in the air. I might have a chance.”

Noah has a point though, since when would any of us fans, analysts or other players have any idea what he’s going through. Last time I checked we’re not franchise point guards that are expected to carry our teams on our backs. People expect Derrick Rose to come back in “too big, too fast, too strong” fashion – that’s just a little bit of pressure.

We can just add this to the list of reasons the city of Chicago loves Joakim Noah. Never lose your passion man. Preach Jo-No.

First Round Playoff Preview: Chicago Bulls vs Brooklyn Nets

If watching the Bulls has taken a back seat to other reality TV viewing this season, it’s time for you to jump back on the Bulls bandwagon. The NBA playoffs have finally arrived and the next month and a half of exciting playoff action is the ideal time to really tune in and pay attention.

It’s been a love-hate relationship for most of us Bulls fans this season, but the time has come to put the regular season behind us, strap on our best Bulls gear and BULLieve in our city’s team.

Despite the constant disappointing hype surrounding Derrick Rose’s return and the additional injuries to other starters, the men in red nabbed the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference and are heading to Brooklyn to get the post season started against the Nets this Saturday.

Brooklyn has home-court advantage in the first series, being the fourth seed, however the match-up is not unfavorable for the Bulls. Chicago took 3 of the 4 games against the Nets in the regular season – one coming just a few weeks ago while the Bulls were missing half their roster. This series will be a true test of the offensively powerful Nets and the defensively feisty Bulls. Can the “heart, hustle and muscle” pull off a first round win against the new-era Nets? Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau told ESPN he “likes his chances,” with the guys who have played all year. Let’s find out.

Bulls March Report Card: C+

The month of March was ticking along like just an average month of late for the Bulls, full of ups and downs and sprinkled with some tough injuries, until they snapped the big bad Miami Heat’s 27 game winning streak. And like magic, the shorthanded Chicago Bulls gained a little bit of much-needed respect around the league.

As we begin the final month of the regular season, our Bulls have already clinched a playoff spot – not too shabby. Let’s re-cap what went down this past month. Remember ladies, these are excellent talking points for water coolers, cocktail parties and wherever else the Bulls are discussed.

The Good: Despite missing some key players due to injury, the team has glimmers of fabulousness when they play as a cohesive unit. Los Bulls were able to defeat the Heat without Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, Marco Belinelli and Rip Hamilton.

Defense is the name Thibodeau’s game. The Bulls are still dominating on defense, only allowing 92.5 points a game (going strong at third best in the league).

The Bad: No sight of DRose. The Bulls star point guard has taken a cautious approach to his return to the lineup after undergoing serious ACL surgery last May. Even though Rose was cleared to play by the team’s doctors in March, he’s been very vocal about not suiting up until he feels 100%.

This is all fine and dandy, but it’s time to make an official statement – he’s either coming back or he’s not. If not for the fans, then for the mental sake of his teammates who are bombarded with “Derrick Rose return” questions on a daily basis.

The Bulls can’t seem to catch a break when it comes to injuries. Kirk Hinrich spent half of the month on the bench with his ailing injuries.  Rip Hamilton is out of the lineup with a back injury. Taj Gibson also missed more than half of the month with a knee injury. One of the toughest injuries has been Joakim Noah’s plantar fasciitis that has kept the heart of the Bulls hustle and muscle sidelined for the last few games.

Overall: Chicago is sixth in the East and won half of the games played in March. A 7-7 record constitutes a C average, but the Bulls get some extra credit for preventing the Heat from making NBA history. We give the men in red a C+.

5 Things the Bulls Need to Fix Before #TheReturn | SportsDivas Inc.

It’s been a full week since Derrick Rose was cleared to play, but instead of celebrating Bulls fans continue to be showered with more tough news as they patiently wait for his return. Even though he’s physically able to play, the megastar just isn’t mentally ready yet. Coach Thibodeau has preached patience to Chicago fans throughout the entire rehab process with the mantra of good things come to those who wait.

The latest setback in the Rose-return saga has to do with his hamstrings. On Sunday before the Lakers pounded the Bulls in LA, Rose let the media know that his hamstrings “are on fire” after every practice and until his hammies aren’t throbbing he won’t be returning to the lineup. In all fairness, the hamstrings are an extremely large muscle that support the knee ligaments and Rose is being cautious after a very serious knee injury.

On Tuesday Rose said,  “If I rush back and something was to happen, everyone would say, ‘Why did you rush back? So I’m just taking my time and being prepared and knowing when I come back I want to be 100 percent.’” The man has a point.

After some thought, I’ve decided that Rose’s return would absolutely spark the struggling Bulls roster – HOWEVER basketball is a team sport and one man cannot cure all the problems. If I were in Derrick’s shoes I would want my teammates to fix some of their troubles without me before I made my grand return to the court.

Rose Stays True to His Hometown | SportsDivas Inc.

Derrick Rose may not have been able to help the Chicago Bulls on the court this season, but he’s always willing to help his city. Chitown’s megastar never ceases to amaze us. On Wednesday Rose shed a glimpse of his humanity and gave us all another reason to love the NBA star.

By now most of us know DRose’s background story. A Chicago native, born and raised in Chicago’s South Side Englewood neighborhood, a place most notorious for gun and gang-related violence. Because of his close knit family Rose was able to grow up safe and sound and go on to become the star point guard he is today. He knows firsthand not everyone on the South Side can be as fortunate.

Bulls February Report Card: D

The Bulls clocked some major miles on the struggle bus this past February. After a red-hot January, the Bulls looked like a different team this past month, reminding fans of the harsh reality that there is still a lot of basketball to be won and lost. There was some good and way too much ugly to sum up the 28 frosty days Bulls fans would rather forget.  Let’s dive into it:

Good: Joakim Noah and Luol Deng made Chicago proud in their All-Star appearances. There’s nothing better than having two of the best representing your city.

The Bulls defense is still killing it, only allowing 91.2 points a game (3rd best in the league). If only their offense could follow suit.

Bad: Derrick Rose’s brother/manager Reggie Rose: Reggie opened his big mouth and toyed with our emotions. Because the Bulls didn’t make any big moves (trades/signings) to bolster their roster before the NBA Trade Deadline, Reggie accused the Bulls organization of not doing enough to build a team around Derrick and that their lack of attack to the Trade Deadline may very well cause DRose to sit out the whole season.

In one interview Reggie was able to completely insult the current Bulls roster (excluding Deng and Noah) as well as tarnish his brother’s reputation. The worst part of it all is that we still have no idea if Rose will actually return.

Ugly: The Bulls STRUGGLED offensively during February.  Whether it was a midseason slump or something in the locker room water, none of those men could get the ball in the basket.

The injury bug struck again last month with Kirk Hinrich’s elbow, Joakim Noah’s plantar fasciitis, Marco Belinelli’s ankle, Rip Hamilton’s various injuries and Taj Gibson’s knee. The Bulls are already shorthanded playing without star point guard Rose; we can’t afford to lose more of our core. Some think the rumor mill about Rose not returning at all this season started to take a toll on the Bulls’ mental toughness. In the end, the goal is still the same with or without Rose – play hard and win games.

Also, with Kirk Hinrich out of the lineup for 10 of the 13 games we didn’t have a solid point guard running the offense. There was a lot of sloppiness, followed by a lot of turnovers, resulting in some big losses.

Overall: Chicago stumbled out of February with a record of 33-25 on the season, second in the central division, but only won five games and dropped eight big ones in February. They didn’t beat any elite teams other than the Atlanta Hawks and instead the top teams (Spurs, Heat, Thunder, Pacers, Nuggets) made the Bulls pay the price for their struggles. With ample room for improvement we give the Bulls a D on the month.

Big Brothers With Big Mouths Cause Big Problems

NBA: Derrick Rose Rehabilitation

Looks like Derrick Rose’s big brother/mentor/manager Reggie has got himself a big mouth. On Thursday afternoon Reggie told Scott Powers of ESPNChicago.com that the Bulls organization hasn’t done enough to build a team around Derrick and that their lack of attack to the trade deadline may very well cause DRose to sit out the whole season. In one interview it seems as though Reggie was able to completely insult the current Bulls roster as well as tarnish his brothers reputation.

reggie rose“It’s frustrating to see my brother play his heart and soul out for the team and them not put anything around him,” Reggie Rose said.

Well Reggie, it’s frustrating to listen to you trash talk Derrick’s team. Reggie said those were his words and not his brothers, but we know he’s a big influence over his little bro.

Aside from Luol Deng and Joakim Noah, who Reggie singled out as great players, big brother threw the rest of the team under the bus. I’m wondering if shoot-around before the Heat game was a little awkward?

Derrick came out later and said that his personal goals as well as the organization’s goals remain the same – bringing an NBA title to Chicago outside of the Jordan era.

Any Bulls fan would have embraced a big move before the trade deadline. What basketball fan wouldn’t want another superstar on the team? We want to be able to defeat Maimi in a seven game series, BUT basketball is a business and there’s more to it that getting what you want dear Reggie. There are rules with salary caps and luxury taxes. Unfortunately, the Bulls weren’t in a position where they could make a move that would be worth it. No one wants Boozer’s contract and J.J. Redick had potential to be really expensive later on. Also, the Lakers this season have proven that sometimes even a superstar studded roster can’t get the job done (sorry Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard).

Charles Barkley shared his thoughts during the halftime show on TNT Thursday night, ““His brother needs to shut the hell up, number one,” Barkley said. “Listen man, I’m going to make one of the rules, when I’m king of the world — which is never gonna happen — hey man, we don’t care about your mom, your dad, your brothers and sisters. Stop tweeting. As Herm Edwards would say, ‘Don’t push send.’ Nobody cares what you think. If a reporter calls you, he wants you to say something bad about somebody else, so don’t be a damn idiot. Stop tweeting about coaches and players and stuff. Let the famous person be famous. You just shut the hell up.” He then proceeded to pass the spotlight to Ernie Johnson will saying “My bad.”

I know it was a rant, but I have to agree with Mr. Barkley. Last time I checked Reggie Rose isn’t the Bulls franchise player. He’s not a previous NBA MVP. Actually, he’s just an average guy from Englewood who has an unbelievably talented brother. I get it, Reggie has spent his life protecting Derrick and making sure he made it to the big leagues safe and sound. Family comes first always, but sometimes you need to know when to keep your trap shut.

I’m going to keep believing Derrick Rose will return to the court when he knows he’s ready and the only person who can decide that is Rose himself. I think the rest of us, including Reggie, need to just shut up and wait it out. I’ve got my patient pants on over here.

Bulls January Report Card: A

The heart, hustle and muscle of the Bulls continues to defy all expectations this NBA season. If you’ve been waiting for Rose’s return before truly paying attention to the Bulls, it’s time to buckle in and start believing because the Chicago Bulls have proven that they are the real deal – with or without Derrick Rose.

Our Bulls wrapped up January winning 12 of their 16 games, they’re 29-18, and third in the Eastern Conference. Not too shabby for a team missing their star player. Let’s breakdown the Bulls fierce start of 2013.

The Good: January was a monster month for the Bulls with 16 games and a flurry of activity. The Bulls are sending two players to the NBA All-Star game for the second year in row. Joakim Noah was elected to his first All-Star slot and Luol Deng is making a back-to-back All-Star appearance.

Derrick Rose is closer than ever to his return to the court. Throughout January the star worked his way up to consistently practicing with full contact. What does this mean? Our DRose lovin’ minds can barely contain our happiness because the point guard could potentially come back sometime in February or March.

For the first time in a Bulls uniform Carlos Boozer is playing to his true potential. The Booze Cruise demolished the month of January (before his hamstring injury in the final week). Boozer’s play is a definite threat to other teams. He’s big, he can shoot, and now his defense is finally getting dirty. The Bulls have a true power forward in their starting lineup for the first time in 3 years.

The team really started to dominate the East when the Bulls’ bench clicked. We’ve got flashes of the Bench Mob back in action. Jimmy Butler isn’t a NBA rookie anymore – he’s made a big splash off the bench. Nasty Nate Robinson is still taking some crazy shots, but he’s also racking up the points. Marco Belinelli continues to surprise us with his smooth jump-shots and improved defense and Taj Gibson has added plenty of dirty dunks.

The Bad: Inconsistency still haunts the Bulls. They endured a rough loss to the Washington Wizards on the road. It might have been an away game, but the Wizards are the worst team in the league – no excuses.

Overall Assessment:  January was absolutely the best month yet for the Bulls. Chicago was 12-4 for the month and gave a new breath of hope to all Bulls fans. If the Bulls can keep playing at the same caliber, 2013 is going to be a beautiful year. Coach Tom Thibodeau has done it again and this time he took his misfit players and transformed them into another stifling defensive team.

Bulls Weekend Round-Up: Big Brooklyn Win & Injury Reports

Tis’ the season to Bullieve! Yet again, our Chicago Bulls were able to silence the critics and squeeze out another shorthanded nail-biter against the Brooklyn Nets Saturday at the United Center. The Nets – who recently updated their location to Brooklyn (they used to dwell over the entire state of New Jersey) are one of the biggest surprises of the Eastern conference this season and were expected to take this one away from the Bulls. Despite Deron Williams’ three-pointer at the buzzer, Marco Belinelli’s sweet shooting allowed Chicago to walk away with an 83-82 win.

Baby Rose Makes His Debut

Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose wasn’t just preparing for his return to the court this season after knee surgery, but also the arrival of his first baby boy. This morning baby Rose pictures went viral on Twitter! If you thought Rose might be getting bored with the rehab grind, I’m sure his little man will keep him on his toes.

DRose and longtime girlfriend/baby mama Mieka Reese worked incredibly hard to keep the pregnancy off the radar avoiding any media publicity. There was the initial buzz when word got out that the former MVP was expecting his first child with Reese, but then things have been hush-hush until these photos hit twitter this morning. I guess being a proud papa bull trumps any privacy plans. I mean, how can you hide those chubby little cheeks from the world?
