Prince Fielder takes 2012 Home Run Derby Title

Prince Fielder brought out the big bats – all $214 million worth- Monday night claiming the 2012 Home Run Derby title. He really put on a show thrilling the crowd at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City by hitting several shots into the right-field fountain. The Detroit slugger hit a total of 28 home runs, beat out Toronto’s Jose Bautista in the final round 12-7 and now joins Ken Griffey Jr. as a multiple winner of Major League Baseball’s Home Run Derby. Fielder has won a Home Run Derby title in both the American and National (he won his first HR Derby title as a Brewer in 2009) Leagues – not too shabby Mr. Fielder.

Other than his impressive swing and insane strength (two of his homers were estimated to be 476 feet!), the best part of Fielder’s win was his two adorable sons standing proudly by his side with big ol’smiles while he accepted his trophy – little kid afros get me every time!

The 2011 Home Run Derby Champion, Robinson Cano of the New York Yankees, failed to hit a single home run in this year’s contest. Better luck next year big guy.

Tonight is the 2012 All Star Game. Be sure to check out some of our very own White Sox players who will be fighting to secure home field advantage for the American League in the World Series.

Is Pierzynski’s Popularity Responsible for his All-Star Snub

This face says it all. When the All-Star roster was announced a certain players name was missing, and it just so happened to be White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski. Let’s just say he’s not very happy with the situation. What can you expect when you’re consistently topping lists like the “MLB’s Most Hated Players.” It’s not rocket science dude – you probably won’t be winning any popularity contests.

The unforgettable Barrett-Pierzynski throw down

Statistically speaking, it wasn’t the most scientific study but, “In a Men’s Journal survey of 100 Major League Baseball players, White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski was voted “most hated player” with 34% of the votes. “He likes to talk a lot of sh**, and I’ve heard he’s a bad teammate,” one National League pitcher tells Men’s Journal. “He’s been a prick to guys on his own pitching staff. Basically, if you haven’t got five years in the big leagues, he treats you like you’re a peasant. He’s that kind of guy.”

Whether you love him or your hate him, Pierzynski is having one of his best seasons in a White Sox uniform at 35 (he’s batting .285, 14 home runs and 45 RBI) and the Sox are even in first place. I can understand his snippy attitude toward his All-Star exclusion.

Fans voted the Texas Rangers’ Mike Napoli (.235, 12 home runs, 30 RBI) as the starting catcher. The players selected Baltimore Orioles catcher Matt Wieters (.249, 11 HR, 38 RBI). Rangers manager Ron Washington, who will be leading the American League squad, also chose Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer (.324, four HR, 36RBI). After selecting Mauer, Washington said he “felt bad” for A.J.

Pierzynski recently expressed his displeasure with reporters last Sunday, ”If (Washington) felt that bad he would have put me on the team,” Pierzynski said. “He had an opportunity to and he didn’t do it. Obviously, he can feel as bad as he wants, but he didn’t feel that bad.”

Honestly, part of A.J.’s All-Star snub is a reflection of the poor White Sox fan base. Sox fans haven’t exactly been supportive at the gate this season, which helps explain why his vote total was low.

I know he won’t be heading to Kansas City July 10th for the All-Star game, but lets just embrace the “bad boy” reputation and remember what’s really important here. You don’t get a fancy diamond ring for being an All-Star. A.J. needs to keep playing his toosh off and get himself to another World Series.

We love you AJ

Joakim’s Got the Messy-Bun Swag

I can’t think of very many situations where you would be able to respect a man with a large and in charge messy-bun, but Joakim Noah proved me wrong. I like to call it #messybunswag.

Noah hit the floor of the UC tonight ready to destroy the Milwaukee Bucks, and his trademark bun was rather fancy. Joakim Noah finished tonight’s game with his first career triple-double by scoring 13 points to go along with 10 assists and 13 rebounds. To top it off he’s humble too, telling Comcast Sportsnet, “it’s an accomplishment, but we’re playing for more than that.”

You’ve either loved him or hated him since his days as a Gator, but if you’re a Chicago fan, right now you love him. Noah has always been known for his energy and dedication to the game, and his hard work is really starting to show. His offense improves every year, he is now dominating the boards more than ever, protecting the paint, protecting the ball, and finishing plays. His performance is clutch to the Bulls postseason success – so keep that swagger Jo No.

Although Noah is playing like a beast and Luol Deng and Derrick Rose are heading to the All-Star game in Orlando, this 5 day break is much needed for the banged up Bulls. Rest up!
